temporary speed governor disable

So i read on another less credible website that you can temporarily disable the speed govenor by turning the key forward right before you hit the govenor.

All i can see is this is a good way to fry you starter when you engage it at WOT at near top RPMS...

I dont have the ***** to try it on my own truck lol

Who ever said that must not know anything about anything... dont ever try that, the only way to turn it off is to get a tuner/chip.

Do it all the time. As long as I don't press the clutch, the clutch position interlock prevents the starter from spinning in the '97, and the neutral position sensor prevents the starter from spinning in drive in the '02

So does that mean it does disable the speed limiter? Or is this right up there with the emergency flasher disabling it?

How fast do you have to go before that thing kicks in anyway? I've had mine up to about 110 and never had any problem.--DIY

Wow that's strange b/c like I said I've had my 100 mph speedo buried and the truck was still pushing. That's about the time the speed limiter in my head kicks in and I back off!--DIY

I've never taken my 99 4x4 up to the limiter, but have reached 100. The truck doesn't feel firm enough to go any higher than that safely. I assumed it had a speed limiter at 110.

My 96 Ranger has a limiter at 110, so did my 93, that i've reached and tried to exceed many times, same with my wifes cavalier. I tried the emergency flasher thing on those and of course it didn't work. Maybe someday when conditions are good I'll try the key method on the cavalier.

Yeah, it was used, but I know for a fact that there isn't a chip in it unless it was a flash programmer. I know there's nothing elternal b/c I've had teh ECM out of the truck before. I dunno. Maybe it's at 110 and I didn't quite get it there. Truck doesn't seem real comfortable at that speed so I don't do that very often. It's a truck you know, not a Mustang!--DIY.

Every F-150 speedo I have ever seen (including mine) registers about 8-10 mph above actual speed. My speedo was reading 2nd gear the other day, and the Edge said 98.

I've heard that too, but told in about 30 different variations. I've never tried it since I figured it was just a quick way to break teeth on the starter and make that rather unpleasant noise. The ignition on my buggy locked it out of the "start" position once it left there, so if the motor failed to start you'd have to remove, reinsert the key and try again. Some older cars I noticed did that too, probably meaning there was no protection against a grind.

I don't think my '93 can even reach 100, hell, the speedo only goes up to 85 and there's a pin at 90 so it can't go any higher. I can cruise at about 70-72(average highway speed here) at maybe 1/3 throttle in O/D, providing it's a flat drive. But why would that override the limiter anyway?

You people must go to the racetrack or something, you pass 80 on the freeway around here and a cop will be on your *** before you know it, ready with the "sir, do you know how fast you were going?"

Come on down to the PA turnpike. If the gov can do 110 for no reason why can't I?

Aww comeon, that '93 will no problem, as the '92 bronc hasn't a problem doin 100 plus (at the moment of this pic the gps was at 97 and ridin smooth, just a crappy old camera)

and this is just shy of when the limiter kicks in on the '97 at about 95mph. The speedo is 5ish off due to a tire size change. I can't get a pic goin faster as then I'm holding the key.
