COP Troubles

2001 supercrew 78000 miles, original owner. Engine started running with less pep. Then it developed a bucking or hesitation between 40-50 mph.Thought it might be tranny. No trouble codes , no ck engine light. Took vehicle to dealer. Was told #5 & #6 cops bad. Had both replaced at dealer. (Too freakin Expensive) Ran ok for about a week. Then started hesitating and missing worse then ever. So bad I thought it may be a fuel problem. I replaced the fuel filter. No better. Read some post here @ f150, someone mentioned ebay and a seller selling COP's. I figured I'd take a chance , it would be less expensive than taking to the dealer again! I pulled and installed the new COPs. (drivers side was tougher - had to remove fuel manifold w/ injectors. But not too bad.) After install test drove vehicle, no missing, or hesitation, or bucking. Drove vehicle all this week to work aprox. 250 miles, runs as good as ever. Did it myself and saved the aggivation and money of dealing w/ the dealership.
BTW the old COPS including the 2 repaced by the dealer all measured the same. nothing stange or different that you could point a finger to and say that was the problem. Only Plug #8 looked HOT. But vehicle was running too rough to be 1 bad plug.
Sorry for the lenght of this post , but hopfully it will help someone.

I had been having the exact same problems with my truck the last four months. After reading the forums, I decided to take the same route you did, and my truck runs great now. This forum saved me hundreds of dollars. So far, buying them off ebay has been well worth it. I replaced the plugs while I was at it, and over all, I didn't think the job was that difficult. Glad to hear it solved your problems.

Question Cops

Who was the manufacturer of the cops ?
For preventative maintenance, fill the plug boot with a good grade of diaelectric compound.I've seen only Accel & Granatelli advertise Ford COPS.

Cops

as far as who makes the cops , I don't Know. it's definetly aftermarket, decent quality. I would buy them again. The seller had good ratings on ebay, and several other 150 members had purchased the same items without regret. The ebayer is global automotive. No regrets
I changed the plugs as well. The diaelectric silicone grease i purchased the day of the install from dealer. Actually this delayed the job quite a bit as i had to wait for the engine to cool..

I bought those same COP's and they have been great. I now have approximately 7K on them and zero problems. I devloped a slight misfire at 62k and did not want to pay the dealer the outragous $$ to do one COP just to wait for another one to go. I bought the 8 new COP's and 8 new motorcraft plugs and did them all at once. Plus, my 2000 had the shorter, older threads on the plugs. The updated plugs have two more threads on them that may or may not reduce the chance of blowing a plug. The dealer wanted almost $6 each for the plugs. I found them on line for $2.50 and returned the the stealership plugs.
