99 f-150 5.4l that shakes when accelerating

or in idle, but more when I accelerate. I have read several of these messages and one person says to replacve this, and when they do, the problem is still there.
I am afraid of taking it to a mechanic and saying something is wrong, then it does not fix the problem and I end of spending way too much money.
I remember taking it somewhere a few months back and he said it was a bad sensor, someone else said it was a coil. Another person said I dont have sparkplugs and another says I do.
What the hell do I do?
Mainly, do I have sparkplugs since I have a fuel injection truck???
Any ideas as to what I should do????????

From what I am told, the coils run on different voltages at different engine speeds. This is why sometimes it can't be detected at idle. It works up to a point and can't put out the additional voltage needed. If you can press the pedal very slightly on take off and have no vibration, It might be the coil. Local auto parts stores in my area will do the obd II test for free, Thats at least an option before shelling out the green.

Thank you so much. So if I take it to like Auto Zone, it should detect which coil???Should I replace all of them? Is it an easy job for a first timer?

It could be your transmission as well, I have a 2001 5.4 and have the same symptoms.

It sounds like a misfire. A transmission problem most likely wouldnt cause shaking at idle.

I suggest you start the truck, and then start unplugging the coils one at a time to see if the trucks idle changes when the coil is unplugged. If the idle gets worse, that cylinder is probably ok. This will help to try and narrow down which cylinder(s) is causing the problem. From there, remove the coil and plug from the cylinder in question and inspect them.
