1995 F-150 4.9l

Had a question, my buddy and I both own F-150's with 4.9L's in them, mine has 229k on it, his only 89, but my question is about testing the engine codes. My truck is an 89, and the connector for the ECM tester is the same as it is on my SHO's, but on his truck it looks like they have changed this connector in 95 ? I have never used a tester, just jumpered one of the leads of the "bigger connector" and the 'signal ground' i beleive its called "small grey one", and read em off my check engine light, but i'm wondering what to jumper on this one? This new one was mounted to the inside of the fender about 2" forward of the hood spring on the driver side. anyway... a little help would be wonderful.. thanks..
