#4 misfire

Ok I know this has been brought up quite a few times here as I have been reading about it for the past two weeks or so but i still havent found anything that quite matches my problem. My engine(01' 4.6 liter) is stuttering and hesitating every once in a while and I finally got the check engine light to come on(it usually wont) and it came up with a #4 cyclinder misfire and thats what I was expecting. The problem is that i have been checking the heater hose that is supposed to cause the misfire for the past couple weeks and it never shows any signs of wetness or leak at all. It is dusty and has been from the start. So my question is can there be something else causing the misfire or if not is there another way to check for a leak other than just looking and feeling. I have been trying to disconnect the stupid thing but so far i have been unsuccessful. This has been going on for quite awhile and I have changed the spark plugs but it came back. Any suggestions would pretty greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sam
