07 Crew Cab... enough power to pull trailer?
07 Crew Cab... enough power to pull trailer?
Looking to purchase an 07 crew cab... strictly work vehicle, my question is does anyone know if it can handle pulling a double axle trailer full of construction equip... can I get the truck with a short bed... are their caps avail for bed and can I find one with manual transmission and an all vinyl interior...anyone out there have one... unfortunately I've been too busy to get to the dealer, but when I can, I wanna walk in with a list of exactly what I want... this will be my 5th Ford truck... 2nd new one and admit to having a love affair with the damn things... thanks

The Fords are geared lower for pulling Dodge's out of the ditch.
My brother is a contractor, and he runs the Ford 250's (desiel)
He tows a Double axle loaded with a bobcat, tools, and ramps.
Lot's and lots of towing power with the Triton motors.
I own a basic 5.4 shortbed (see owners pics) and can pull a loaded
18 ft. U-haul with only a slight hint of it being there.
Uphills she slows a bit, but I don't mash on it.
The 150 is considered a light duty, you may want to opt for a 250.
can I get the truck with a short bed
I think so, but for a work truck you might want a larger
bed anyway. My 6.5 shortbed will just about fit a 4-wheeler, and thats about it. If you really want a short bed, you might want to consider one of those
hitch mount cage things to give you the extra space to stick stuff without
messing around with straps, bungies and looking for the cooler back on I-90.
are their caps avail for bed
Bed caps: Yes, and almost to many to choose from depending on what you want, and what your willing to fork over.
Rail Caps: Yes, and almost to many to choose from depending on what you want, and what your willing to fork over.
can I find one with manual transmission
I think so, but I'm not sure. I know the 250's come with a stick, and I think with the 150's it's an option. I'm sure sombody up here will know.
I got the auto so I can do power breakers and drink my coffee at te same time.
all vinyl interior
Yes: If you do a search on the "interior care" part of the website you will find links for the vinal. Ford does offer Vinal as an option. My brother has it in
his 250's. Since he's a drunken Irishman, he simply opens the doors and blasts the cab out with a garden hose (and to be honest, it works pretty good...)

Thats gotta be nice....

For Vinyl interior, you'll have to opt for the XL models. While the 5.4L F-150 should offer you enough power, getting one with a manual tranny isn't an option. Your best bet would be an F-250. You can get a vinyl interior XL with a manual tranny and your choice of a 5.4L V8, 6.8L V10 or 6.0L diesel engine. For a big trailor, the F-250 is really the way to go.
I don't believe there's such a thing as overkill when it comes to towing something.
If this is a truck you're gonna be using exclusively for work, towing a lot, I'd go ahead and bite the bullet and spring for a 3/4 ton or bigger truck, maybe even with the diesel. Better to have and not need...and all.

If you want a stick like I do, only way to get one in a half ton anymore is to get a V6 4x2. Fortunatly the superduty trucks can be "optioned" with a six speed for the serious towers.

I would say they have enough power, as long as you're not towing a backhoe and trailer plus everyday, then go diesel over gas. The Superduty is pretty much limitless as far as towing, they come to accomodate pretty much everybody, but if your wants say F-150, you should be more than fine. Hard to say.

Just check the towing capacity of the models you're looking at and make sure that the max weight you'd tow at once doesn't exceed the max tow rating. Power to pull is only half the issue, the other half comes when gramps pulls out of a u-turn going 15 mph on the freeway and you jam on the brakes with a 3ton trailer behind you.
For a work vehicle a shortbed seems kinda impractical. If you're getting a pickup, you might as well get as much bed space as you can. My longbed takes a snowmobile with space to spare, and the rear gate still closes.
