Question 4.2L conversion

I have a 98' f 150, that i just threw a rod on the # 4 cly. I want to know if anyone has pulled a 4.2 out and swaped it with a 4.6 or 5.4 V8? And if so how hard is it to do? Any info is appreciated..

I'm no engine guru but being that I am a fellow 4.2L owner, I have researched this topic a few times and basically gave up on the idea. It's not any easy project nor have I read of anyone acutally doing it. Some of the basic set backs seem to be the differences in the transmission and having to get the PCM and wiring harness etc. I read some where that the easiest swap would be to get the ole' 5.8L V8 and that would bolt up.

Some of the experts will give you some better information, good luck if you decide to take on this project, I would love to hear of someone actually doing the swap and reporting of their success. .
