blue smoke after idling then acceleration
My 97 F250 LD with a 4.6 started puffing some blue smoke recently. It seems to only do it after idling a while, (like in heavy traffic), or when taking off at a light. Hard acceleration is not neccessary to get it to puff out a cloud of blue. When cruising there doesn't seem to be any smoke. The oil consumption doesn't seem to be too bad either, (about 1qt/3000 miles). I am not too sure how many miles are on it as I got it used a year ago and the odometer/speedometer was replaced. My guess would be about 140K. There is no smoke at startup as far as I can tell.
After reading as much as I can find in the forums it seems to me like it may be valve seals or rings. Since there is no smoke when I start it, even after it sits for a while, I am leaning toward rings I am hoping some one can tell me different...
Any input would be appreciated. I am going to take it to a mechanic in the next few days but would love to have some more knowledge on the matter.
thx in advance,
-dan
