Throttle Response

I have a 2004 F150 short cab short bed with a 4.6l v8. When driving if I try to pass or get into traffic the response is horrible. It feels like a 5 second delay from when I hit the gas to when the truck responds. Any help would be greatly appreciated the truck only has 40,000 miles on it bone stock.

do intake mods, and exuast. I put in a new filter, removed my silencer, and modded the fender inlet, and noticed better throttle response, b.c it can pull more air faster/ sooner.

exuast will help some, but i would do a K&N and research some of the options on the fender inlet, and research how to take out your silencer.

response

When I push on the pedal in the truck why is there such a delay in the response of the motor. The pedal goes down and it is 5 seconds later that the engine responds. Trying to figure out the slow response .

Take it to the dealership, pretty sure theres a PCM flash specifically for that problem.

Remember - 04's and up are ECT, intake/exhaust mods won't do anything if the PCM is deliberately holding back the throttle and opening it when it feels like it... there is no mechanical connection between your foot and the throttle plate - a little pile of silicon is calling the shots here

Reflash has helped some, but a custom tune fixes it for sure - along with a LOT of other improvements in driveability

Search the Chips forum for 'throttle response' posts - you'll get an eyeful.

Cheers

I had the same problem with my 05, the reflash at the dealer solved it. As stated above, a tuner will solve it as well.

Do they do reflashes on the 4.6? I was under the impression those were only done on the 5.4.

Yup I agree, but that would be 'tuner', since you can't 'chip' an 04+ ... just an fyi ...

Another vote for chip or programmer, cleaned the slop outta mine, shifts really fast now, gotta use 91+ octane though. I would START here, other mods will follow I'm sure.
