Unhappy Help! EGR Problems

Hi, i have a 1998 f-150 with the 4.6L engine and i'm getting the OBD II error code that reads "egr valve insufficient flow" and i don't know what to do about it, the people at ford told me to replace the EGR valve, which i did and it didn't fix the problem, then my mechanic told me it was the dpfe valve/sensor (i think it was dpfe, it was four letters and to the left of the EGR valve) anyway, so i replaced that and it was fine for a bit, (about 30 miles) then the light came on again, so i re-read the error code and it again said, egr valve insufficient flow, does anybody know what it could be or what i could do?
thankyou so much i appreciate it

Ford and your mechanic are just parts changers. Not good for your wallet. Check for carbon plugged exhaust feed from the manifold to the EGR valve and from the valve to the intake. Poke and scrape the stuff out and suck the remainder with a shop vac. The 4.6 is famous for this.

I just had the same problems. I had to take off my TB elbow and clean the egr ports. There is 2 of them and both were full of carbon. If you need help on how to do this here is the link.

you may have a plugged up dpfe hose or two, or a bad dpfe sensor. if it is grey in color, replace it

yeah thats what my mechanic sorta said, that the dpfe sensor was bad, and it is grey, metal, the original oem one, ur saying i should replace it anyway?
is an autozone one okay, or does it have to be from the ford factory? i heard the auto zone ones are crappy

I thought you already replaced the DPFE???

Start by cleaning out the ports in the throttle body. Also check for vaccuum leaks.

Haha, yeah i already replaced the dpfe sensor, but once that didn't solve the problem, my mechanic (one of my parents friends) said to just take it back, so we did

I think i got it, i cleaned out the whole throttle body and the two holes in the throttle body that lead from the EGR valve were completely clogged up with carbon, so now they're clean and after the test drive i think its fixed, light hasn't come back on since
