4.6 Rebuild
4.6 Rebuild
Hi, at this point I guess there about 1000 different ways to go. But my budget narrows it down to far less . I have a 2000 F-150 with a 4.6. It was a new remanufactured engine about 8000 miles ago. I lost compression in two cylinders. disassembly of the engine revealed two failed pistons. By that I mean an area of approximately 1.5" x .5" on the top face of the piston right on the edge was either burned , chipped, or broken. I am running a Super Charger along with several other engine mods. I am thinking at least part, if not all of the cause was driving with my foot to the floor for those 8000 miles with an improper tune. Regardless of what caused it, I would like to know if there is any reason to believe that the rest of the engine is damaged? Would it be a mistake to just buy 8 new forged pistons and new forged connecting rods and install them as is? My very non-mechanic mind is looking at an engine with only 8000 miles. No visible wear what-so-ever. Also, I only have the engine disassembled as far as the pistons and rods , I have not touched the crankshaft. As for assembly and disassembly, so far, I am comfortable doing the work myself. If I have to go further I am not so sure. I would welcome and appreciate any and all input, help, thoughts, views, opinions, ideas, ect. Thank you for reading my post.

stock crank will handle 700 tq so just get some 4340forged I-beam rods and forged pistons and get it balanced. I beam rods are cheaper will hold up fine with stock crank. and if u get i ballanced u will have a nice high reving motor.
Thanks for your reply. I have never rebuilt an engine before, this is the first. I might have a lot of questions that may seem dumb to some, so please be patient.
Can I just install the fordged pistons and rods in the block as is?? I have not removed the crankshaft and didn't intend to unless I had to.
To what are you referring to when you mentioned getting something balanced??

balancing the rotating assmbly so there is no vibrations when its reving high... vibrations from imbalanced rotating kit can cause hell night mares.. it has to be professionally done. u might be better off buying a pre balanced rotating kit. unless u know of some engine shops around in your area.. also u might want to get a good set of rings and race grade bearings. ARP head studs and Cometic<sp> head gaskets. so it will handle more boost.and get low compression pistons. Je makes some good pistons but a set of Mahle will do u fine
Thanks again for your responses. I think that is more than I am willing to tackle right now. so I did some searching. I found a couple places to purchase short blocks with fordged pistons and rods installed This might be a solution.

yeah VT engines and modular motor sports make good short blocks also.
