Engine shudder, vibration help.
Thanks for all the help guys. I thought it would be the spark plugs but didn't want to say anything just because I wasn't sure. I have one more question.....I heard it was pretty difficult to change the plugs out so what would I need i.e. tools or extensions. I thought I might go out to the flea market in Grand Prarie to buy the tools. I don't need sizes or anything just something in general.
Thanks.
Hello to all of you. This is my first time being on f150 online and was wanting to test it out by posting my first problem.
I have 2000 F-150 V6 single cab short bed if it matters.
The problem I am having is that the truck vibrates or shudders when pulling out of gears. It's more violent at low RPM's. It feels like it's running out of gas even though it has a full tank. It's not because of me not pressing the gas when depressing the clutch. I don't think it's the transmission since it sometimes does it when in neutral at a stop light as I rev the engine. I am no engine guru so I need some opinions. My service engine soon light is now on and I wanted to see if I could get some help on here before going and spending more money than I need to. The vibration came and went a couple of months ago and is now back again. Went it stoped a couple of months ago I left it alone as I thought it might just be a random occurance that stoped. Does anyone have this problem? can someone give some advice? Thank you very much.
Tony
One more thing. I've never had the truck serviced or checked. I was wondering where I could start looking for someone to check the service codes that are malfuncitoning. I am young and dont have much money so I was looking for the cheapest way.
thanks
Thanks.

If you have a CEL, take it to Autozone or any parts store that reads trouble codes. They usually do it at no charge. Post back what code(s) you get in the V-6 forum. You'll get more responses to your questions there.
sounds like just the common misfire... bad wires... so id change plugs and wires out on it. if not use a volt meter and test the resistance on the wires.. but over age... the plug connector in the boot will become loose and when u pull the plug off the connector will sometimes stay on the plug itself...
Mine was doing the same kind of thing. Stuttering and shaking sometimes while in drive but not moving, and when accelerating. Basically any time there was a load on the engine at low RPM. It also caused a noticeable loss in power.
Try looking at the spark plugs and wires. And if they are even the least bit worn or have a gap larger than about 0.050" replace them.
I just did mine this weekend (new plugs and wires) because it started stuttering and felt weak when accelerating. I didn’t change them for the past 56,000 miles (im at 112,000 now) and all of the plugs were at almost twice the gap as they were supposed to. It was not an easy task, as the back plugs are almost impossible to get to (at least on my '99 4.6 V8). But I got it done and the difference is AMAZING. $80 (should be significantly cheaper for V6) and 3-4 hours of work and I got all the power back. It now accelerates and tows just like the day I bought it.
AutoZone will check the codes for you for free. But most likely it is just going to say "misfire in cylinder #".
