Performance question..........

I just got a used 04 screw. It has the 5.4 with 3.55 nls. Everything is stock. This is my first V8, so I like the sound even though it is stock but the performance is not breathtaking like I was really hoping for. Is there hope for me to add a little more punch without spending a bunch of cash? I don't have a lot to spend but I would like to do a little something. I would like to at least be able to spin the wheels from a dead stop. I see some people changing gears; what kind of cost is involved normally and will that cause any possible problems messing with something that aint broke? Thanks a million guys!!!

First thing I would do is get a tuner. You can go with an Edge or Xcal 2. Both will give you what you are looking for. Do a search in the tuner section for all kinds of info. And do an exhaust on that thing.......man s gotta have that v-8 sound.

I paid about $700 for 4.10 gears, LSD and the install.

Huge improvement.
Shoulda done it sooner.
My second-favorite mod, behind the blower.

(I've done all the popular mods, looking back I should have done gears and the blower in the first place instead of waiting years to do it)

You won't hurt anything.

Thanks for the replies........but

do the 4.10 gears kill gas mileage by any chance? What exactly will be the difference if I did that? Thanks Again

I went from 3.55 gears to 4.10s (limited slip, of course), while staying with stock sized tires. I have found no difference in fuel mileage over the past two years.

The xcal2 loaded with Troyer's custom tuning while running good 93 octane would be a good cost effective start to your vehicle.
