ac question/problem

ok this is one is on my brothers 1998 1.5l mazda protege, the ac compressor seized so we put a new one on (we did ourselves, though we know its illegal). but the clutch doesnt come on when you turn it on.

the first new one actually gripped some but when you revved it up it couldnt handle the rpm's and slipped. we thought it was broke so we exchanged it for another one, but this one doesnt come on at all.

How do we space the shims on the clutch and does anyone know the specs? before we returned the 1st new one we tried to take the pulley off but couldnt with out the puller tool. were going to rent one now.

So this one doesnt do anything even though all fuses are not blown and the electrical all works fine (we checked it), is it not grounded right? What is all of your thoughts? And yes the first one was seized cuz you could not turn it at all once it was off the car.

We want to get it fixed asap seeing how its 100+- degree weather right now.

Is the system charged. ie correct pressure. On my ranger the freo was low and there was a presure switch that was keeping it from running. I jumped out the presure switch with some wire to verify thats what it was. Recharged it and it started to work. Then it leaked down 2 month later.

First, you don't appear to know enough about messing with AC systems. The pressures in the system are very high and you can get seriously hurt. Take it to a shop and let them evacuate and recharge the system for you. Simply adding refrigerant to a system that has not been pulled into a vacuum first is a VERY BAD IDEA.

Take it to someone that knows what they are doing before you get hurt.

Also, go start reading over at www.ackits.com. Check out their forums.

yeah we had it vacummed out but the mechanic stopped putting more in cuz he said the clutch was slipping. were not recharging it ourselves were just changing the part ourselves to save money cuz this isnt cheap. so i dont need to hear all that stuff. all i want to know is why the clutch isnt engaging.

No sense in paying a mechanic 100 dollars to charge and vacuum an ac system if the parts arent working correctly.

It was either -
1) Overcharged, or
B) he was trying to charge using liquid instead of vapor

I suspect item B.

Go post over at ackits. That is a specialty AC forum and they will have a lot more information than anyone here. They can probably even find you a good AC shop in your area.
