Egr
Howdy, I just hit 104,000 miles in my 1999 F-150 Lariat and the "check engine"
light, came on this a.m. Had a nice Chick at autozone read the code and I have a bad EGR valve. I'm not sure of the location of this part, as I have'nt had to spend much time under hood other than driveway GreaseMonkyin', Filters etc....
Please help, Thanks & have a great weekend.

if you have the ford haynes manual it tells you all about the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. If not you might be able to find pictures on the internet on where it is. It is a fairly simple process.
There's not a code for a bad EGR valve. You probably have code P0401--Low EGR Flow. Most of the time, this code is caused by a bad DPFE sensor or clogged EGR ports. The EGR valve itself seldom fails.
Get a Haynes or Chilton manual and it will show the locations of these parts. The average Joe can repair/replace these parts with a minimum of tools (socket set, a 1 1/4 inch adjustable wrench and a screw driver). If you know how to use a multimeter, you can save a lot of time and check the voltages on the DPFE to see if it is bad or not.
