F150 Interstate Accident

The F150 is a great vehicle to be in an accident. I was going west on I-10 after a music festival with one of my daughters. It was Easter Sunday and the weather was perfect and it was around 3:00 pm. A rented Hertz Toyota Corrola was forced outta the east bound lane and came straight across the median and hit an Olds Alero that was in the right lane. I was passing it in the left lane and going 70 mph. It hit the Alero about 15 feet in front of me and the impact was just like those slo-mo insurance test crash vids except I'm looking in real time. I'm not kidding everything was frozen in time, the flying bits of glass and plastic, the rear end of the Corrola up in the air... It was weird and unexplainable. Anyway, I had about one second to decide whether to stay in my lane and T-bone it, give it a glancing blow, or yank it hard left which probably would have made us roll or go into eastbound traffic. I decided on the middle option and chincked the steering a little left and took her into the median. Well I want you to know that this truck shouldered this Corrola aside like a steam shovel! I've been in accidents before and was expecting a violent impact. All we got was this "CRUMP" sound which was not actually that loud. My daughter was sleeping with her head on the door and she woke up as we're going into the median and asked me "Papa, what are you doing?" I told her we'd been in an accident and pointed backwards. The impact shattered the front passenger tire rim (amongst other damage!) but I was able to bring her to a controlled stop about 10 yards from the eastbound lanes. When the tow trucks came (three other cars were involved) you couldn't even recognize that the Corrola was a Corrola! So I learned that if even gas prices go $3 plus, the safety that a F150 provides is priceless!

i can definately vouch for how safe a f-150 is in a crash, i was involved in a wreck about 1 week ago. traveling at 50mph had to swerve around someone in the road and glanced up next to another truck doing same speed and nailed the corner of his trailer with the left front corner of my bed and it just pealed back like a sardine can, bent my frame, axle and ripped the driveshaft out of tranny. it broke both of the guys trailer axles, he was towing a few thousand pounds of truck tires in the trailer at the time. everyone was safe and luckily my truck didn't flip it just spun around 1/2 turn. all i got from the accident was a small cut on my left arm from the driver side window breaking. this truck was a 03 standard cab and i have since then am a new proud owner of another 03 f-150 standard cab stepside bed just due to how well it stood up in a impact. im sorry for jumping in this thread but i can agree these trucks ford did there homework on. im glad everyone was safe in your wreck and everyone drive safe.

Yeah, luckily the air bags didn't blow. I was about $1,000 from being totalled. I sent her to the Ford dealership and they did a geat job on her. The only thing I didn't like was the suspension on the passenger tire was aftermarket Moog which I can lube. I think they put on another Ford suspension parts which don'r have grease ports.

my airbags didn't deploy since it was a side impact but my truck was totalled at %65 damage normally 75 is the magic number but the adjuster said just from looking he could find 65 so he just said we'll total it.

Well I'm glad you were unhurt and got another F150. I like mine so much that I don't know if I could find another to replace her!

Yup, all the gas milage savings in the world won't help if you are squished in a compact after a 5year old on a tricycle slams into you.

Gotta love a fullsize.
