E85

Anyone running E85? Just bought a 06 flex fuel 5.4. I've got a few stations in my area selling it at .30-.50 cents lower that regular unleaded. 100 to 105 octane? Any thoughts?

If it was available in my area, I'd run it in my non-ffv vehicle.

Do we have any longtime users of E85? Maybe I could be the test monkey.. I have a Mobil station close by that offers it currently at 2.60per gallon

There's a fellow in the chips section that is running it in a non FFV vehicle.

The pro's: much cleaner burning (less emissions), 85% blend derived from corn or other starches, higher octane, same price or less than regular unleaded

The con's: Hard to find, corrosive to vehicle components (unless FFV modified), lower MPG

Ethanol (alcohol) is a corrosive. Introduced into the fuel system alcohol (at unacceptable levels) can do substantial damage. It can erode fuel lines, fuel tanks, seals etc. FFV take this into account and modify fuel lines, tanks and other components in the fuel system to prevent corrosion from high content ethanol fuels ie. E85

It is subsidized by the federal goverment to help push the development of infastructure. Ethanol currently costs more per gallon than gasoline. Check here to see if there is a station near you. http://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/e85t..._stations.html

Here is a good thread about using E85 for turbo applications.

Towards the end it it gets very interesting. Guys are using megasquirt II (cheap stand alone fuel injection) with flexible fuel tank sensors to set their Mustangs up for flexible fuel.

Go here:https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=243020

According to him, the part numbers for ffv vehicles and non ffv vehicles are the same.
