fluid temperatures

I've finnaly got my edge evo. all set up and wanted it to monitor my fluid temperature. Right now Engine Coolant, Transmission Fluid, and Engine Oil temperatures. My problem now is that I really don't know what to look for in termperature. Could someone give me an idea of at what temperatures I should be getting worried? What are the normal opperation temperatures? How much of a change can I expect when towing 5000 lbs? and so forth.

Thanks in advance.

I think the trans temp will throw an idiot light at 260*, I personally think that anything under 230* is acceptable while towing. IMO

Keep your 4r70/4R75 tranny under 225 to be absolutly safe. The E4OD/4R100 can take a little more, but not much and stay happy.

With my updated cooling on the big diesel's 4R100 I won't cross 200 with a big trailer which will lead to a trouble free cool life.

Water temp should be near whatever the thermostat is.

if you have the stock cooling, your not going to need to worry abou the ECT as ford has built a cooling system that will way more than enough for our trucks.. You dont even need to look at the ECT inless it starts going over 220F

I'll second that. I've done some WILD things with my truck and it's never run hot.

I can't comment on the oil temp, but my aftermarket water temp will run around the 180* mark for the most part. In the summer time, it's a little higher and when the truck is working hard (ie towing travel trailer, or otherwise) the water temp will go to 195*. The only time I've seen it hotter was when I was pulling a 6% grade in second gear on a 90*+ day towing the TT. It got up to 210*. Once I got to the top and was going down the back side, the temp went back to 195*.

My trans temp pretty much follows along with the water temp when it's hot and working hard. When the trans is not working hard, it'll run around 150* in stop and go in the winter time and just above 100* on the hwy. In the summer time, it'll go to around 180* in stop and go towing the trailer or not. Sometimes it'll get to 210* in the summer time in stop and go if I can't get up to speed fast enough to lock the TC... Running on the hwy in the summer will go to 180* towing or not too.

My trans temp sensor is on the trans output line, before any coolers, so that's the hottest my fluid is getting.

I think the PCM takes the trans temp from the pan for the most part... It takes the water temp from one of the cylinder heads and not sure on the oil temp....

That's just how mine goes... I'm glad I've got the gauges at any rate... At least they move with the temp changes and don't just sit there doing absolutly nothing like the stock gauges do... Well, the gas gauge moves down a lot!! ha, ha!!
