A/C pully needs to be changed, 98 4.6

how indepth is this job? my 98 4.6 needs a new clutch assembly for the a/c and im not sure how much work will be needed to change it if i choose to do it myself.

is it just a few bolts? can anyone post a breakdown of it?

thanks!

I would invest in a manual. It does require the removal of the Compressor. A puller and holding tool are also required. There should also be a snap ring that has to be removed.

It sounds to me like it could be a lot of work, if you have to remove the compressor, you'll have to drain the refrigerant, and laypeople aren't supposed to as you're supposed to recover the stuff, not to mention you don't want contaminants in there.

To cap it off, if you screw up, it's not your vehicle you're messing with, so I'd pass on it, personally

I removed my old pulley and installed a new one with the compressor still bolted in place. It wasn't the easiest thing to do because of how tight things are, but it is do-able.

Since it is your neighbors truck, I would recommend not touching it. Since you are dealing with the A/C, that project could go bad quickly.

yeah, ill heed the advice and pass it on, im sort of the neibourhood mechanic, people tend to drop vehicles 2-3 times a week off for repair at my house, and it gives me a few hundred bucks exta in my pocket.

but ive never touched a/c before. and i dont think ill pop my cherry on this one either.

thanks for the advice guys
