Dead on Highway
Dead on Highway
Pulled onto highway, Lost all power to guages. Shortly after the truck died.
Pulled over and was able to turn the key to get power to the guages but not enough to start. Was able to boost and run a short while before it stalled out again.
Possible issue of corroded wireharness below main fusebox under the hood. We have Salty roads up here in the Maritimes.
2000 F150 4.2 V6
Any thoughts???

Probably not easily, and the problem may not just be the brushes.
Some alternators have the brushes integrated into the regulator circuit so it's best to buy it as an assembly, because the regulator may not be performing correctly....and while you have it apart, you might as well do the bearings as well.....which is when you usually realise you might as well get a recon unit as it's cheaper than doing it yourself, although as long as you have the tools like gear/bearing pullers, overhauling an alternator can be fun if you're into it - but people do it so infrequently, parts may be hard and expensive to find...
You also (perhaps most importantly) need to check the diode pack, to make sure they are all ok, as a bad diode will run your battery flat. Most times these days, the diodes are spot welded to the pack frame and you need to detach them to test them. It all gets a bit hard.

Friend had a problem like that before and he checked his connections to the battery and they were a bit loose and all he did was tightened them and they worked, so u might wanna try that before u do any hard repairs, just as a opinion and i thing u might wanna try.

The Altenator was toast. Stator had its last ride. Getting it rebuilt.
