You mean so HIIIIIGH. At 72 MPH I'm running 2000 RPM. He's got some teeny tiny tires on it, and I think he's running some aftermarket gears too (3.73s or 4.10s ) And at 11.5 MPG, jeeeze boy, take it easy. I got 11 MPG towing up hills running 75 MPH. On the last trip (today) I got almost 14 MPG running 70 - 80 mph, not too many hills either.

Think I Need to Show My Lariat Some Love!

Y'know, one of my grumbles recently has been the mileage out of my 4x4 S'Cab. I thought 13-15 wasn't all that great; shoot, that's down where my wife's Ram 1500 sits! My best mileage in the F150 was 15.8 on a weekend trip to Tucson - mostly highway, at 75-85.

Guess I'll stop worrying about mileage and work on getting a little more low-end power for pulling the trailer. That's my biggest headache - when the horse-hauler is hanging off the back bumper, my average is about 1/2 stop-sign per gallon.

But, at least it's cheaper than a lot of them in town!

That's excellent mileage for that speed.IMHO If you backed off to 55 you'd get 19mpg.

10% smaller tires. and stock 3.55 rear end so my axel ratio is about 3.90:1 now

My 2001 supercrew with the 5.4 gets 11 as well. I drive normal, but do set cruise at about 79 on the highway. I can get 12 if I stay off the highway a little more.

Maybe its the year? Maybe its the truck? But mines the same as his. I could NEVER hit 19 in that. I did a trip to Canada earlier this year, and it took me a whole tank to get there and I still only hit 13.

I get 17mpg on the highway doing just over 70, keeping the rpms near 2100. Usually I am closer to 80 MPH though and my mpg drops into the 16s. Can't complain about that, after all it is a 5500 pound truck!

I'm telling ya, you're getting exactly the same mileage as me.. If you slow down to 55 and when you take off from a stop, don't let the rpms get over 2,000 you'd be suprised what will happen.

When you changed tires did you happen to fix your odometer/speedometer to make up for the difference in tire size? If not then that could be one reason your mileage looks so bad. I have 35" tires and 4.56 gears and can get 14-15mpg out of it pretty easily. I also run about 1800rpm at 55 and around 2500 or so at 70. Been awhile since I drove it that fast. Have to drive 40 miles to school one way and been trying to keep it at 55 to help with mileage.

Well I just filled up my tank this morning, and I hit 311.6 Miles to the tank, which averages out to be about 12.464mpg on a 25gl tank. Improved yes, but a far cry from your 14mpg running 70-80 mph. Do you have any mods on your truck, as I don't speed, and I try to keep my rpms below 3000 when I accelerate...... Also what size tires and rims do you have on your truck?

Dude, how did you run your tank all the way down to 0 gallons?

How much did you put in the tank at the gas pump? That will tell you how much you burned. You can't just assume that you used the whole 25 gallons. When most people's guagues get to "E" it takes 22+- gallons to fill up. 311.6miles/22gallons = 14.16mpg

You're doing "average" IMHO at 70-80mph. Right on par with what I would have expected. Actually, better than what I would have gotten at those speeds.

Ok I feel much better, at the very least I am not alone!!!
My Truck is over 100,000 miles easy, and LA Traffic is bad (10, 60, 605, and 101).

Do those Superchips really work? Is that why your MPG is so good?
