Angry Just bought a 2000 F-150 5.4L

and it ran great... I drove it home about 300 miles or so and not a problem... but once I got back to my house the service engine light came on and it lost a tremendous amount of power and is eating fuel like crazy... and when I first start it up now it literally sounds like a diesel when i press the gas... but once the engine has heated up it goes away for the most part....

the code that came up when I scanned it was a PO136 which was an O2 sensor.... and so i went to put it in... and the day i took it to my buddy's shop the light went out after he jiggled a sensor right by the air filter housing... but now the light is back on and still reading the 02 sensor...

would this little sensor cause this much power loss... and why would the light go out for a couple days and come back on...

god, im so nervous.. i don't wanna be spending thousands on this truck....

anyways.. any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated

Did you have a pro check it out first, or did you get any kind of a warranty if you didn't have it checked?

Maybe this is a stupid question, huh?

Yup, the O2 sensor tells the engine mixtures in the exhaust, telling it to run a certain way. Never had one bad, but heard about it. A couple of tips on the 00's is watch tie rods, ball joints, trannies and the IAC on the throttle body. I guess a spark plug issue as well, none here though. Engines are good for the most part, head gaskets aren't so watch. Good buy, you should enjoy it and in doing that do some preventative maintenance.
