engine swap quote
i called brentwood ford (nor cal) and asked for a quote on an engine swap. the swap being a 4.6 for a 4.6 and he said it would cost around 5000. is that about right. what are my options. i dont know how to do it myself.
If you really want a new block, then thats about what you'd pay from the dealer. You can find new 5.4's on ebay all the time, sometimes with tranny for about 2500-3500 bucks. (even the lightning SVT drivetrain I have seen on there for $3000 a couple times, brand new take outs)
well i have over 180k on the engine i pull a trailer and i spend alot of time in the high rpms and im just afraid its going to blow at the worst possible time so im just checking out my options. the 4.6 for the 4.6 is because i thought it would be cheaper.
if its possible to put the 5.4 in with out a significant increas in price that would be great... shouold i just spend the extra cash for the 5.4? what do you think?
thanks a bunch

I just replaced my 4.6L engine in my 98 SCAB. Paid 1900 bucks for a remanufactured one from aerengines.com. 3yr/100K warranty. Find you someone you trust that is reputable and have them do the swap for you. You might find someone to do the swap for you for 500-800 bucks, or you can attempt it yourself and save some money (for tools). We can help you through it. Theres alot of talented/experienced people on this forum that would be happy to help (right guys?).
At $5K, I'd consider buying another truck.
An FQR engine is about $2500 or so, so that leaves $2500 worth of labor at an average $80/hour labor rate which is about 31 hours of labor. If they're charging you 31 hours to swap a damn engine, they're smoking massive amounts of green, and I don't mean dollars.

Does that come with or without the vaseline?
