Fuel switch maybe?

Hey guys, I'm new here but I was wondering if you guys could help me with my issue. I have an older 1986 f-150 and I don't believe my switch that tells the car which fuel tank is working properly. When I flip the switch to the rear tank the gas never reduces. I believe it just stays on the front tank. The gas gauge is a little faulty. What would you guys suggest? Is there a easy way of teller? What it be the switch, rear fuel pump or what? Any help would be appreciated.

With your truck running, listen on each tank for a buzz or a whining noise, this is going to be your fuel pump. Flip the switch and see what happens. If it switches, I have seen the connector on the frame rail in front of the fuel tank corrode and cause a false reading or possibly just the guage or a sender. Try that first, and post your results.

Welcome aboard! Gotta love the older iron...

I bet the sender unit in the rear tank is toast, but do you mean that whatever the front tank level is at, and when you switch to the rear it stays the same?
