4.6 triton

I have a 1998 F-150 50th ann. edition. I spun a bearing on #7. I need to know what engines I can replace it with or should I just have the crank turned. 8th digit is a W and there is a 1 inch "R" on the block. I have found an 94 crown vic 4.6 for 600.00 and a 92' lincoln 4.6 for $500. Both run great but I do not know if the will match. The vin on the lincoln is a W aslo. I need to do this quick I already have my engine out. Thanks

Wayne

I was reading somewhere that the early modulars had a different trans bolt pattern.... I'm not sure if this applied to the windsor motors or not....

so, as bizzarre as it seems, that W on the vin actually denotes a romeo engine according to my mechanic and his pro software. The 6 is the windsor designation. Might explain the R stamped on the block..lol..just 2 more cents on the subject as I face the same road with replacement.

The car motors and truck motors have two different powerbands, they are cammed differentley and have different years for the PI heads but as far as I know still use the same block.

the block part numbers are different but they will interchange with a little work.

BTW, the very early 4.6 had a 302 bellhousing pattern and a 2 bolt starter mounting.
Also, don't get a fwd 4.6. won't work

You may want to look all right, but don't plan on buying one unless you have a fleet account with them. You'll have to go through a distributor for tham and plan on that markup being about another 7-800 dollars plus a higher core charge.

Well If you have the motor out I would just buy a new block, crank, the 1 rod and some new bearings and have it all put together. A new Iron block is like $350.00, Crank will run you about $145.00 and the rod about $40.00. So for the parts and to have it put together you are looking at about $1,000.00 max including all of the gaskets you will need to put all of your parts onto the new block.

hmm..yeah, assuming that I had the time to be running down used blocks in fair shape, then all the parts, then assembly. since wrenching is not my job and I need to pay the bills, the reman from ford( wholesale, through the dealer..it does pay to have a great big family sometimes) arrived to my shop today in it's big plastic case all shiny and new inside. Should be in by wed, so we'll see just how tired my old engine was in comparison.

Lets see you came asking for help then want to be a smart@ss about it......hmmm...yeah... What the hell were you looking for a used motor for if you could get a reman'ed for a good price from Ford?

Lets put it this way I was showing you a way around using a used motor, the prices I gave you were Ford List price for new parts. I could order the parts today, have them here in about two days, the engine builder would probably charge me $200 to put it all together in a day, and I could have it back in the truck the next day.

Who said I was looking for a used engine? I actually have a machine shop three doors down and was pretty much assured that it(a rebuild) wasn't going to be in that price range. Same from my mechanic. I was looking at other than ford, because many of the other remans have taller warranties on their stuff than the ford 3/36. I appreciate the input, but spending days swapping parts is not an option for me.

Sorry LOL I had you confused with the original poster who was trying to choose between two used motors...
