E85 is 85% ethonal and 15% gas.
This mix will be very lean in a gas only engine.
I would not do it on the basis of overheating.
This is not because the fuel burns hotter but because there is no fuel cooling under the operating conditions (not enough fuel).
Mileage will go way down.
Other reasons are the Ox sensors are design centered on a gas ratio of 14.6.
The E85 ratio will be a lot lower. This means the ox sensors will detect the extra oxygen and try to fuel the engine much more in an attempt to correct. This is where the fuel mileage goes down and still cannot meet the air/fuel requirements.
I'm sure you will get a CEL lamp from it.

thanks for the feedback

thanks; just looking for ways to bring cost down.
I like my truck but sometimes hurts my pocket spending 20 gallons every week.

E85, where available, cost just a smidge less but you get 20% less MPG and reduced performance from it. Plus, if your truck isn't set up for it, you'll destroy your fuel system in time
