question about labor costs?

i ordered the troyer performance ignition upgrade and called the dealership to ask them how much its gonna cost to put in. I tried to go to my local firestone who are alway's helpful, but they said they coulnt install items purchased by the customer. the ford dealership said its like 100 dollars for plug install, 100 dollars for wire install, and the guy couldnt find the price for the coil packs to be installed.

does that pricing seem about right? I know its the dealership so they are super expensive anyway, but i just thought i'd see if anybody has expereince with this service being done.

Thanks,
John

Average auto labor is anywhere from 65 to 95 per hour.

It would probably be better to find an independent repair shop to do it. Most places charge a lot higher rate if you bring your own parts. It would be like going to McDonalds with your own hamburger patty and asking them what it costs for them to cook it and serve it to you.

Good investment.

I purchaced the same kit and after installing only the Coil packs there was an imedeate increase of power and I saw an increase of approx. 1.5 mpg.

I really should get around to intalling the plugs and wire too.

Plugs, wires, and coils are 2.6 hours labor, book time.

As far as customer supplied parts, most shops won't install them, or if they do, they won't put a warranty on the job.

well got it all installed yesterday. 279 for the coils, wires and plugs. 25 for serpentine belt install and 35 for synthetic oil change. wasnt too upset, but i also retracted my request to install a new fuel filter. that will be in a few weeks! thanks for all your help and replies guys. oh and the ignition upgrade from troyer - pretty good and fun so far! no complaints!

thanks again everybody,

John
