I agree. There's no logical reason to wash the engine anyway. And who cares what it looks like? That's what the hood is for. If you wet your engine, you're asking for trouble. But.. If you can afford it, then by all means- Go for it!!

I've been doing it for years... Cover the important stuff, degrease, and rinse off. Wipe everything dry, then start engine and let it idle.

Knock on wood, everything has always been great.

See the General Care and Detailing section. There's a lot on engine cleaning there.

thats because you don't have your spark plug in holes on top of the heads.

Though I have not had a reason to wash the engine of my 05' f150 it's still pretty clean. I've washed the engine of every other car I've ever owned, I just make sure the engine is running while and after I am washing it. I've never had a problem with misfireing or not starting.

I've used a Scunci Steamer (sp?). Works like a charm. Very small steam spray so it's easy to control where it is going.

Cleaning Engine

I have noticed that more dirt gets up into the engine bay area on this truck ,06 F-150 , than any other vehicle I have ever owned. Never washing it may be an option for someone living in a non salt and ice melting chemical area, but around here you would certainly have a very rusted engine bay in a short period of time. Like to hear how the pressure washing works out on the new trucks. Also, has anyone tried to seal up the engine bay area better, especially around the scant inner fenderwells?
