Please Share Your Expertise - Significant Lurching on Acceleration(??)

Symptom just appeared today. Half-way through full tank of gas, so can probably rule out bad fuel.

2000 XLT, V-8 4.6L, 106K miles. Oil every 3K, no powertrain work. Recently installed Flowmaster 40 (2 weeks ago, but no problems until today so don't think it's related).

Idles fine; hard acceleration from a stop seems okay; steady speed okay.

Lurching / missing occurs when accelerating from any steady speed, especially if in overdrive. For instance, if steady at 55 mph and want to accelerate to pass, truck experiences significant jerky, slow acceleration rather than smooth, rapid increase in speed.

Thoughts? Other info needed?

Thank you to all.

Fuel filter, fuel injection cleaning, transmission pan gasket, bad plug perhaps, and the list goes on..........

I suspect a bad ignition coil. Do you get a CEL?
