Service engine soon light? DCT Codes??
My service engine soon light came on today so I ran my superchips tuner to see what the code was. It gave me a P0401 code, I cleared the code per local service dealers request and it came back on 30 min. later. Now it reads P0401 and P1000. What do I need to do? Truck seems to be running fine. The P0401 had something to do with the EGR.
I have not actually checked what those codes indicate, but from the clue you mentioned (EGR) I will bet the EGR valve could use a good scrubbing. I would clean it up and clear the codes again. Cheap and easy, never a bad thing to try first.

Click SEARCH use P0401 as your keyword.
This is probably the most common code discussed on this forum.
99% of the time, the problem is either clogged EGR ports or a bad DPFE sensor.
The EGR valve seldom needs any attention.

P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected
The EGR system is monitored during steady state driving conditions while the EGR is commanded on. The test fails when the signal from the Differential Pressure Feedback EGR sensor indicates that EGR flow is less than the desired minimum. possible causes Vacuum supply.
EGR valve stuck closed.
EGR valve leaks vacuum.
EGR flow path restricted.
EGRVR circuit shorted to PWR.
VREF open to DPFEGR sensor.
DPFEGR sensor downstream hose is off or plugged.
EGRVR circuit open to the PCM.
VPWR open to EGRVR solenoid.
DPFEGR sensor hoses are both off.
DPFEGR sensor hoses are reversed.
Damaged EGR orifice tube.
Damaged EGRVR solenoid.
Damaged PCM.

Same problem...
I just bought a 1999 F150 with a 4.6L V8. I've got the same problem. Luckily for me I work at a dealership, and my most trusted service guy hooked his diagnostic computer to my truck and said that my EGR system could use some attention, but I've got 156,000+ miles on the truck. That's right, I just bought it, with 156,000 miles on it. Needs some EGR stuff, and possibly spark plugs, but it runs pretty well!!
