help with fuel line

i have a 96 f150 xl lb sc 302 e4od with two tanks the mid tank was dead so i pulled it but to do that i had to cut the stupid "quick disconnects" off becuase they wouldn't disconnect and after a hour i took a pair of dikes to the line. right now a pair of vice grips is holding the lines shut. i thought there would be a little vavle that would prevent the gas from one pump going to the other line. needless to say this was a bad!!!! idea. i was thinking of taking a 1/4 wide peice of copper tubing flanging it and putting it in the braded line the a peice of 3/8 fuel line with a bolt (to stop up the hole) in one end then clamping each line with four clamps three on the line and one over the bolt. does anyone have a better idea? thx
