I could use a Cadillac converter. Make my F150 into an Escalade, please...

Let me be the first to help you out instead of ******* you......A bad catalytic converter can cause a few problems. It usually depends on which one it is. Looks like you have a 2005. You can either have 2 or 4 catalytic converters based on build date.

If you only have two, it could be sending false signals to the front 02 sensors causing your engine to dump more fuel into the motor.

If you have four catalytic converters and its one of the back ones, it will just cause a CEL to come on and throw some trouble codes. This shouldn't affect your truck except to have that annoying CEL light on.

Goto your local auto parts store if you don't have a CEL reader and get them to print out your trouble codes. Then post them up here and some of us can be a little more helpful.

if it's 2005 shouldn't it be under warranty?

and why do you think the catalytic converter is bad? What other symptoms do you have?

It doesn't ride as smooth as he wants it to, and the interior isn't as optioned as he'd like for it to be....

yeh its under warranty ford has a lifetime warranty on the converters its a law. and they are made out of platinum so they are quite expensive! but they do last a long time

I believe it is only 100K miles not lifetime. The converter uses two different types of catalysts, a reduction catalyst and an oxidation catalyst. Both types consist of a ceramic structure coated with a metal catalyst, usually platinum, rhodium and/or palladium. The idea is to create a structure that exposes the maximum surface area of catalyst to the exhaust stream, while also minimizing the amount of catalyst required (they are very expensive).

It is highly unlikely that your 2005 is already bad, if it is go straight to your dealer for a free replacement.

Warranty is 100K miles/7 years on anything emissions related. Unless yours split because you hit something or you somehow caused the damage, they need to replace it under warranty.

Well they said it'd cost me $1100 and I didn't dispute it. I just chopped them off.
