Cool Diesel Swap?

Just curious if anyone has done a diesel swap on a F150. I have a '99 4x4 with a 5.4 with about 300k and I am sure in the next while (50k or so) will have some issues. The piston slap is getting a touch loud. And a new oil leak just started at the back. I am going to do a diesel swap of some sort not sure what engine I am going to use. Just wondering if any knows of this being done. Engine swap are kind of my thing I have done several.

Thanks
Josh

It must be real tough to do cause ford are still dragging their feet on this! I would be tempted to look for a "light weight" so the front is not overloaded and require extra strong springs. Maybe around 4.5L would be just right, plenty of pull and low fuel use. I can't see the need for 6L+ in a pickup! well maybe to impress the bar flies.................
I would be interested how it works out.

That is what i was thinking. I am considering the cummings swap. Lots of power in a somewhat small I6 package. I know its agaist the rules dodge in a ford but hey. You gotta do what you gotta do. Once i find a drive line i will post some pics.

Ford owns cummins

ford owns cummings anyway, so i wouldnt really be THAT weird. Dodge has leased the "plans" or "setup" from ford. I have actually heard that the cummings diesel will be in the F150's as soon as 2009

maybe a 4 cylinder cummins

i dont know how well a cummins would fit in an f 150 because of how long it is. if i were to do a diesel swap i would totally go cummins. in lewistown montana where i am from i know a guy who has put cumminss in and 97 chevy, an 87 suburban, and a 94 f350, but these were by no means a half ton pickups. but as far as i know it would tough in a smaller truck. MAYBE A FOUR CYLINDER CUMMINS.

Just buy a Superduty if you want a diesel. 'Cause in the end, you're gonna spend a ton of money and a ton of time and effort trying to make a diesel F150 run and look right.

a few guys at work have installed cat diesels in vehicles and they run really well. a 3116 was put in to a jeep and a small 3054 was put into a s10. sometime we keep the old warranty engines and repair them.
