cylinder head gaskets

I have been getting a small whiff of antifreeze from my 1998 F-150. It has a 4.6 L Triton V-8. Mechanic tells me that I have a bad cylinder head gasket. He tells me also that it will cost about $700 to repair. I appreciate feedback on the cost and if this is reasonable. I know the dealership would probably cost 3 times this much. What am I looking at for cost for parts? Thanks for the help.

HI!... Just make sure when you change the head gaskets to go with some COMETICS. Also the stock head bolts are TTY (YQ TO YEILD). They can only be used once. So once you remove them to get the heads off you will have to disguard them and buy new ones. I stronly suggest at this time that you switch over to ARP head bolts or even better the ARP head studs.
