5.4 going in.

I have desided to go with the 5.4 block and it is being built with PI heads, intake and Comp Cams. The compession will be 10.1. I need help is finding out what items I need to get to swap from the 4.6 to a 5.4 please. So when it is done I can have everything needed to drop it in and go.

It would probably be easier and cheaper to buy an f-150 with a 5.4 already in it. Also, you're not gonna see an AMAZING ammount more power with a 5.4. If you want a signifigantly larger towing capacity, you might want to go with a f-250.

If you do a search in this forum, you'll find lots of helpful information - and you're probably going to need it. The 4.6 to 5.4 swap is much more than a motor swap. For instance, the rear end is different (8.8" vs. 10.75") and there's a bunch of electronic issues you need to deal with. I believe you'll find JMC to be the guy you want to get to know here. He's helped me tons of times. Good luck!

Defenetly talk to JMC. I was considering doing the swap, but after reading about how much crap you have to go through, I decided not to....

Chester you know buying a new truck is out of the question. From what I have been told the wiring is the biggest pain.

From what I've read, if you use your existing coil packs and plug wires, there really isn't that much to it. I believe you will just have to extend a few wires, tap the intake manifold for the temp sensor, make a bracket for your passenger side coil pack, and of course have your pcm reprogramed in some fashion i.e. (tuner) maybe a few other things, but from all I've read it isn't a terribly difficult swap.

It really is not that difficult. Lt. Dusty got most of the main things.

1) Search - engine forums, for "swap", by author JMC, he has posted the info you need several times (he did the swap so he can tell you any info you need).
2) Even if you have the 8.8 rear-end, thats fine...the other rear end is a 9.75, not 10.75
3) Make sure you have the right flex plate to mate the 5.4 to your tranny.

Good luck, keep us updated

Well mm performance is going to do everything. They said out the door (that is taking the 4.6 out and putting 5.4 in) $4,700. Thats warranty, ARP studs, PI heads, Intake, comp cam, beehive springs, tuned, 24lb injecters, headers and new pistons. What does everyone think about the price? Does anyone thing I'm getting ripped off? Also that is for a off road Y pipe with mil Elimaters.

Ok First of all you are going to need a custom tune to run that engine. You would need one just to run a stock 5.4L. Well a stock 5.4 will run off 4.6l programing but to get the most out of it you need a chip. You are definatley gonna need one with all those mods to that engine. The biggest issue is without a tune and running 24lb injectors its gonna run like poopy. Don't waist the money on MIL eliminators cause with SCT programing you can turn off the rear o2's. With SCT programing you can turn of just about anything you want even the egr system so the computer don't look for it.
