Question ticking 2000

My truck makes a ticking noise for the first little while that it is running. The noise always seems to stop after driving for a block or so. The truck is at 85000 miles.

Is it an exhaust tic? an engine tic/knock? or is it a lifter like tic (sewing machine)?

My 5.4 will tic (borderline knock) on cold mornings. This noise seems to fade away as the engine warms up.

what year and what motor?

the injectors have a tic tic tic noise, but it is a constant noise that is always present.

does the motor run and idle smoothly? When were the plugs changed last? I am thinking that I read that a precursor to a plug blow out was a ticking noise (not intended to scare you), but again I would think that would be a constant noise and not go away.
