ok
I am jsut going off what my friend said. I jsut put an air raid on my 99. which BTW I am getting an extra 100+ miles on a tank of gas. appx 5-6 more mpg. Any way He liked mine and and asked what could be done to his. I know that it has 2 air tubes coming from the filter box to 2 different parts of the motor. yes it is a 300 straight 6.

What mileage do you get out of your 4.9?
I know PLENTY of people who got 5-6 mpg out of an intake, and here's how you can do it too, in 6 easy steps!
Step One: Mever ever change your air filter, for at least 80,000 miles. Possibly more.
Step Two: Make sure a lot of this driving is through extra dusty conditions.
Step Three: When your filter gets so crapped up full of stuff to where the engine won't hardly run, measure your MPG.
Step Four: Upgrade to an intake system. Add a turbonator
for additional benefit.
Step Five: measure your MPG once more and notice appreciable difference.
Step Six: Pat self on back for a job well done.
You're done!

I rebuilt the 300 in my 83. Turned out to be a great moor. Used an Offenhouser dual plane intake, a Holley 390 Spreadbore Carb, Mac Headers, and a Crane Cam. Motor pulled strong to 5000, and got better gas mileage than the stock motor. More than a few stock 350 Chevys and 302 Ford trucks were left wondering why they couldn't pull on that funny sounding Ford!
