I am trying to identify what sending unit is behind the oil filter adapter on a 97 4.2 The truck has been leaking Anti-Freeze and it looks like it is coming from around that area. Also the Chekc Engine light is on.

 

Does anyone know?

 

I can only venture a guess. Maybe its the oil pressure sending unit. Antifreeze might be running down from somewhere else and dripping off that sending unit.

There used to be a site called leakingfords.com that had pictures and stuff of problems with 1997-1998 gasket problems. There might even be a TSB for it now. It seemed to be common for those year models and the 4.2L engine.

The coolant is leaking from the lower intake gasket,where the head meets the lower intake.In other words,the gaskets have failed!You better have them replaced or they will start leaking internally,if not already,and will cause your engine to hydrolock! Get it to a shop ASAP,or replace them yourself ASAP!
