Changing heads

I have a similair situation as Jaso mentioned in a different thread, but have a few concerns specifically addressed to my engine. I have a 99 F150 5.4 with a blown plug (#2) I am going to change my heads because I do a lot of towing across country with a trailer and dont want this happening again like it did this time 800 miles from home!!!

1. Does my engine have PI heads, and just to make sure, do PI heads have more threads for the plug than non PI heads?
2. Is there a difference in the intake manifold upper/lower that I should be concerned about? If so what is the solution?
3. Someone mentioned that the compression ratio is rised with these heads, I have to run 87 octane (because i dont pay for it) so i dont need any issues with spark knock.
4. What do you think about these, is this what I want?

I have done a lot of "SEARCH" and have got a lot of the answers I need. These are just some specific questions that still arent clear answers that I need. Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to put me in the clear on my concerns without flaming me to death. Also thanks to all of those who have posted pictures of their teardown and rebuild and pictures of their solutions. I will be sure to take pictures and post them up when I do my head swap to help contribute to this GREAT board.

I can tell you from my research that the first model year heads that have more threads are the 2003's. I am just now starting the repair for #8 being blown out. I'm using the 5553 kit from www.timesert.com . I hope to have this done tonight. Although I don't do the amount of towing you are talking about, I've read nothing but great reviews about using the timesert kit for this.

They started using the PI heads in '99. To be sure you have them, you can look at the casting number on the pass. side head (look up at it from beneath the truck). You will see "PI" cast into the head.

2003 and 2004 heritage 2v 5.4l heads have 8 threads.

The intake manifold is ported differently. Techinically I guess the non-PI manifold would bolt to the PI heads, but it would be pointless to add PI heads if you dont do something about the manifold (port them, or get the PI manifold).

I also have 6/99 5.4 and pull a trailer for pleasure. If you put on new PI heads won't you be where you are now when your done? Do 2003 PI heads fix on our 99' engines? Will changing the heads turn out well or screw something else up? If I had one blow at home I think I would do the "timesert". I'm interested in other opinions.

It should fix the problem. only time will tell for sure. You could just get a set of romeo heads which don't have the same plug blow out problem

OK.....So 99+ have Pi heads, so i dont think compression problems will be a problem for me, and no my direction has changed from wanting Pi heads to wanting Romeo heads. Doesnt Romeo heads have different valve covers? How about intakes? The 2003 trucks have plastic intakes vs. my aluminum intake. If I get Romeo heads, will my intake line up right ir will I have to get a new one/gasket match my old one. This is a whole lot of crap

Can somone provide a link to a set of Romeo heads that will solve my probelm for a fair price? <-----this would be a great help!!!!!!!!!!!

Emailed this guy, he said they cam off of an 03 EXPY instead of and 03 mustang. He also notes that these are windsor heads, do they have the added threads I am looking for. I asked him and he was unsure how many theads they have.
