Opinions needed

I own a 97 Lariat and I am wondering what two mods would be the best for my truck as far as MPG is concerned. It is completely stock and not used for towing. My first thought is Efans and underdrive pulleys. I also read the bedcovers improve gas mileage. Any input would be appreciated.

yeah a tonnao cover will help. and Efans help a good bit so do UD pulleys. intake exhaust headers and a nice tune and u should be doing pretty well.

Just some quick math.....

Let's just say that all these mods cost $2000. That much money can buy you 909 gallons of gas at $2.20 a gallon. That ammount of gas will get you over 13,500 miles at 15mpg.

If you increase your gas mileage from say.... 15mpg to 18mpg, (18% increase), then the cost of driving goes from around 15 cents a mile to about 12 cents a mile. That's about 3 cents savings.

If all of this holds true, then you will have to drive at least 66,666 miles to recoupe the money you spent modifing your truck. That's if you can get a tonneau cover, Efans, UD pulleys, Exhaust, Headders, and a tuner for $2000

That's why I only asked for the two best mods...

I knew the cost would offset any increase in gas mileage if there were any more than that.

Mine is a 5.4 and the my gas mileage increased 3mpg when I removed my cats.

But don't say I encouraged you to take em' off.

You might see the same gain with some hi-flo's

Efans first. Good tune second. These two cost $ 800 - 900.
chester is right though, it takes a lot of driving with increased gas mileage to pay off. The best money to spend is for maintenance - how old are your front O2 sensors? Has your intake plenum had the ports cleaned? How old are your filters, fuel and air? Search function is your friend!

I hear if you put some sugar in your gastank it will "Sweeten Up" Your Gas and make it run smoother. Give it a try...

If you're not wanting to spend the money for some Efans. Perhaps a K&N Drop In Air Filter, High Flow Exhaust System, And a tonneau cover should bump you about 3 or 4 MPG.

Also... although these mods do help gas milage, they're still additions to your truck; and have other benefits besides gas milage improvement; such as protecting your bed with the tonneau cover, additional Horsepower with an exhaust system, and supposed "cleaner" and More air flow into your engine.

So even if you won't be actually "Saving" money right away. They're still upgrades, and I'd have them even if they didn't alter gas milage

Ya have to have the "Turbonator" for sugar in the gas tank to help ya in any way. But it also helps, if you have the Turbonator, sugar in the tank, to stick a bannanna in the tailpipe - Increased mpg, increased performance.

My O2 sensors haven't been changed, my intake plenum ports haven't been cleaned and my filters hane been changed on a regular basis. Is the cleaning of the ports something that should be done regardless of the lack of any codes or pinging? When should the O2 sensors be changed out.

By the way, I tried the sugar thing but it stopped up my Flux Capacitor. Now I have to replace that too!!!!!
