Service Engine Soon Light

This dash light came on and is staying on. I checked the gas cap and fits tight. I even tried a different cap and still the same. Is there a way to track this down with out having to buy a handheld device?

My bro has an 98 f150 and his service engine soon light came on and he still has it and it is still on and he took it to the ford place and the autoshop and they tried to fix it but they said that it was ok so its still on today. It may just be normal.

He went to a place too and they read it and it was normal that the light just may have a short in it cuz it runs fine still got 120,000 miles on it too. They read it and just said that it was normal that the light just stays on.

Anyone who believes that a warning lamp is normal is a greater fool than is the person who stated it is normal.

In any event, without having the codes, guessing is about as effective as farting into a hurricane.
