97 F150 4.6 Race Truck????

hey i am thinkin of changin my 97 F150 into a respectable street truck. I dont wanna use nitrous because its not all the time horsepower (i am aware it is the cheapest way to add horsepower). So first off the engine in it is gonna have to be rebuilt swapped, whatever so i was thinkin of buildin the motor. It is the 4.6. superchargers are expensive i know, so that would be a last resort. I just really wanted to know, if i rebuilt the motor if i could make it into a fast truck. It is also 2wd, so i would like to get a locker with a 4.10 rear end. any lead would be great...

i am also aware that any forced induction makes other bolt ons more productive...correct?

Throw some dished pistons in there when you rebuild it, and then you can get some ported and polished PI heads, and still have a low compression ratio if you want to add boost later.
You could stay with the stock non dished out pistons that you have now, if you wanted to keep your CR low for boost later on you would have to find NON PI ported heads, and trust me, thats a PITA.
Assuming you would do something like P&P'd heads.

There are tons of bolt ons out there too. There is even a stroker kit out there that strokes it to a 5.0 (required boring it 20 over too). Might be something to look into, I havent heard much about it from people that have tried it though.

You could make it into a pretty quick truck.

Ive been wanting to do the same you are thinking so Ive been looking around at all the different mods. I just need to find a different truck to start with

HI!... Yank the 4.6 and put a 5.4 in it, if you want to make a nice sport truck out of it. Look through this thread. There are many ideas in, in what you can do to your truck.

get a iron block romeo or windsor from a junk yard.. the crown vic police interceptors used them that would be ur most abundant source.. get a 99+ year model motor so its PI. get some ported heads and a forged internals a nice cam and ur set. revs higher then the 5.4l and will cause u less greif as of neals motor build up was troublesome for him. and now hes having electrical problems.

How is a 4.6 build up less greif than a 5.4? Im sure if someone was building a 4.6 as crazy as Neal's 5.4 they would run into issues too.
With all that stuff there's bound to be some problems. There are always surprises.

HI!... Don't go those stupid G-TECH PRO things. According to one my truck makes over 400RWH.P. Not even close. I've been on a dyno and make just over 300RWH.P. With the little mods you mentioned on your 4.6 you are probably making about 240H.P at the flywheel at most, so with a auto tranny you would be making about 175-180RWH.P.

HI!... FASTER150 : The only problems I had with my built 5.4 was and american company that couldn't do what they were paid to produce. So I had to do it myself. As for the electrical problems, if that is really what it is, has not been figured out yet, but i'm still working on it. As for a 5.4 not revving as high or fast as a 4.6....... well my 5.4 currently revs faster to 6850 rpm that a 4.6 v-valve. And higher than a 4.6 2 valve.

a built 4.6l sohc with same mods u have will rev to 7800 limit but safe is 7500 depending on weight of the pistons u buy. but we all have our preferences.. both motors are great both have their benifets and draw backs. and balance out in long run most likely. but hope ya get them bugs worked out

because those dern things work off G-force to propel the little motion sensor in them i beleive having the added low end of our trucks will throw them off and make em read high. because ive heard they are accurate on cars but not trucks. just becauce of the power curve differences.

HI!... I could rev this engine that high too, but what's the piont? I don't make power that high. I've had this thing over 7000RPM but currently only makes power to 5650RPM in N/A trim with bad A/F's. My point is that you can make a 5.4 rev just as high as a 4.6 if you know what your doing. The 5.4 IMO is just so much superior that the 4.6 in so mant ways.
