New Radiator Installed/Antifreeze Question
New Radiator Installed/Antifreeze Question
I just had a new radiator installed on my '97 4.6 F150. The coolant the shop used to fill it is blue. I called to ask what coolant they used and was told to come by and they 'd look at it.
I asked the shop guy over the phone if they used the right coolant and he said, "Oh, yes, definitely."
I'm not familiar with any OEM Ford antifreeze that is blue in color. Perhaps it is a generic antifreeze? Anyone out there know?
My concern is that maybe the shop put antifreeze in my vehicle that is designed for GMC?

Ya, as far as I knew there was green antifreeze now this red. They all say don't mix the two, but since yours got flushed out, maybe your alright. My thing is I've never seen blue antifreeze, winshield washer fluid yes. I'd check that out to see if the dumbass put that in.
Yes, there is blue anti-freeze.
If its right for your vehicle is a another question.

What does is smell like?
Do you know what material your new radiator is made of?
If it were me, I would go to the shop and have them show you a bottle of the anti-freeze they use (and write it all down). If its in a drum, I would have them show me the specifications, part number etc. of the fluid in the drum.
This pdf file (required adobe acrobat installed on your computer) does not show any blue motorcraft anti-freeze. (at least when I looked) See page 71.

Thanks again. It's not as technical, but I did find this out:
