4.6 to 5.4 swap HELP

Hello, i'm new to this forum, was directed here via pirate4x4. Lots of great info here but the search feature does not get me the specific info i am looking for. maybe someone here can help.

I have a 97 f150xlt4x4 with a 4.6 that has 160k mi on it. It has developed an oiling problem somewhere internal. I am considering swapping a 5.4 for more power. I have driven a friends 99 5.4 4x4 and it smokes my truck as if it had a 4 cyl in it. Heck, my wifes honda oddyssey blows my 3 doors off! I realize that getting a s/c for the 4.6 will really help, but if i have to replace the motor, i might as well go bigger and then later step up to boost.

Any way, need info on the swap as far as model interchangeability, who can do the computer work, suppliers of good lowmileage used motors, personal experience...etc....

Any and all help would be appreciated...

And yes, my dream is to properly build a 5.4 s/c dohc to drop in and smoke some vettes around here, but being that things are the way they are, no luck.just dreamin.

just search for swap, by JMC (user), in the engines forum...you'll find all the info you need. Search without the author term and youll find plenty more threads.

umm dont

stay w/ the 4.6. Its a whole lot cheaper, if you must replace the engine, get a reman engine, and maybe supercharge later
