Confused

Hi, Im new here and I hope to be able to stick around but I have a few questions.

Im thinking about buying a 98 F150 ExCab with the 4.6, auto trans, off road package. It has 90,000 miles on it and is in great shape. I have known the owner since he got it used with 40,000 miles on it. Hes never had any problems other than a bad battery cable. He's asking $9400 for it.

What Im having problems with are the "issues" that many of you have been having with the blown spark plugs and the door cracks. He doesnt drive this truck to work anymore so I havent gotten to see if it has cracks or not. Hes never had any problems with the plugs, but from the reading Ive been doing it can happen at anytime, and with my luck and financial situation it will happen to me.

I was brought up with Fords, Ive had 2 Mustangs and a 95 Ranger. That Ranger was perfect, only had 1 minor problem in 105,000 miles, until that idiot ran a stop sign and I T-Boned him for it. Currently we have 2 high mileage GM products (200,000 neglected miles+ on each) and Ive been happy with them too, just tired of the minivan thing and want something reliable and fun to drive again.

Are there any signs that I should watch out for with the plugs? Do the doors crack over age or just randomly at anytime?

I know I am going to get biased opinions, but I just want some reassurance that Im not making a mistake by even continueing to think about this truck.

Thanks
Dan

I had a '98 SuperCab with the 4.6. I had it for over 7 years and 75,000 miles. I never had a blown spark plug. I did have to replace the plugs and wires at 40,000 miles.

I did have the infamous door crack on the driver's side door and it never got any bigger than about 1/4" long.

I sold the truck to my brother and he had put another 20,000 miles on it with no problems at all.
