Just in hear looking at everyone's posts and can't help but ask..what about the forgotten 5.0L 302? I have one in my 90 F150 with 118,000mi and it runs like a charm!
That dying breed has faithfully served, and continues to faithfully serve chevy everyday. Ford made a mistake moving away from it. How many problems do you read about on here with the mod motors, in comparision to problems with the 302/351 crowd? Point made
And where are we gonna be in 40+ years. Didn't take much for me to get the ole '66 352 FE up and running after being parked for many years. I fear this will be downright impossible for the current trucks being tinkered with when I'm an old guy.

Adrian is right on. Taking the heads off a 302-351 was a cake walk, and someone with experience could have them both off in an hour or so, while the book calls for 22 hours to remove both 5.4 heads
Snobs may dismiss pushrods as "dinosaur-era" but when GM is building small-blocks that make more power, are more fuel efficient, and are lighter, smaller and cheaper than equivalent overhead-cam V8 engines, who's really the fool?"-HotRod Magazine. This sums up my opinion. Long live pushrod engines.

Had one in our 94 Extended Cab F150. Put almost exactly 100K on it w/o incident. Did replace plugs once just because it seemed like a good idea but never noticed change in performance. A/C compressor froze up just before we traded it but I don't hold that against the engine. Loved truck but it had irritating habit of downshifting into passing gear when running @ 70 mph on cruise control - particularly with gusty winds. Went to 5.4 primarily for that reason. Didn't take that much of a mileage hit.
