Power Question?

Guys, this is my third post, so far some great responses, thanks alot, it is always nice to be reassured in here... If you havent heard my story, I found a 1999 f 150 xlt ext cab, 4x4 off road package with 48,000 miles on it 4.6 ltr ( private seller ), great condition, great truck, great price..1st week I had it the overdrive light was blinking, took it to the dealer, needed 2 accumalator pistons,, 350 bucks.. but I feel better that the tranny was checked out, and flushed etc etc. I paid to have it hooked up to diagnostics.. clean , they told me the truck was in great shape,, ( other than the infamous door cracks by the windows, and the rust appearing under the front doors... ) undercarriage seems a little rusty to me, then again, I never owned a 4x4 pickup and i dont know what it is supposed to look at,, my question is why when im on the highway, I cant keep it under 80mph it moves so nice,, but when im in the city, light to light, it really lacks some uhh " umph " if you can follow me?? Does 48,000 miles really keep this trucks low end power down? Any suggestions? I mean, i dont know much about engines, or am i used to just driving cadilacs with northstars in them .. any info is always much appreciated, if you have ideas, im sorry but please be specific/ thanks alot

it takes that smaller v8 longer to get that big truck moving but once moving you can maintain and gain speed pretty well. (all about momentum)

Adding a chip/programmer, intake, exhaust, fans and pullies should help it get off the line a lot quicker. If you want to put some money into it...Or maybe just regear, maybe some 4:10s that'll help too

4.10 gears will make you love the truck. the 4.6 is a higher revving engine which means it makes it's power at 3000 rpm+ where as bigger displacement v8's make their power in the lower rpm's.

re-gearing it will make the rpm's come up faster when first starting out.

It's simple physics. It's a heavy extra cab 4X4 with the smaller V-8 before the PI version increased HP.

Yup. Not that the 11 HP gain from the PI'd ones really made a difference though.

If your into modding vehicles-there are thousands of products out there to help your truck move better.

Unless you have the M5OD manual the 4.6L isn't real snappy off the line stock.
