Lightbulb Another Blown Plug

Well I just wanted to post that I blew another SP on last Thursday. I had been running errands at lunch, went back to office, and 4 hours later i went home. While pulling into traffic, I heard and left the SP blow.

This is the second plug I've blown on this truck. The first one was #7 and now #6. I am glad I made the Big Sert purchase. This time it was a lot easier and I didnt have to remove the fuel rail. I would say it took 2.5 hours last Saturday. I took her on a test drive and she ran good.

But the real reason I am posting this is..... I learned a nice little trick while attempting to clean the metal chips out of the engine/SP hole. Of course everyone knows about grease on the tools, but that doesn't get all of them.

I will make an assumption, that most people here either hunt or have a buddy that does.... When cleaning the SP hole, it is difficult to get anything down there however....

If you use a gun cleaning kit - in this case I used a 12 gauge cloth patch tip and one metal rod attachment. Placing 2 cotton patches on the tip and swabbing the SP hole, I was able to remove the grease, as well as, the rouge metal chips that did not adhere to the greased tools. It appears the metal chips hang to the cotton patch and allows you to remove the metal chips that could possibly damage the piston/cylinder wall. I did this 5 or 6 times and i was amazed on how much more i was able to remove.

On the final swabbing, i placed a small amount of degreaser on the cotton patch and removed any grease residue.

I hope this helps out any of you F150's with a blown plug.

Thanks and good luck
