Plug Problems?

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but lay it out for me simply. I have a 2004 XLT 5.4 3V. Just what is this COP thing? Can I expect plug problems? I'm somewhat mechanically inclined, but will I be able to change plugs myself? Are they gonna blow out and what can I do to prevent this? After all, plugs used to be a simple screw out, set the gap, screw 'em in procedure. I did it all the time. After years of driving smaller import vehicles where one couldn't see a damned thing to get to it, I thought a big 'ole Ford truck would be simpler to work on, and satisfyingly so. I'm only at 15,000 mi. now, so I have preparation time should a college degree be required. HA! Any help? Thanks.

the COP system you're talking about is the Coil On Plug system. Each spark plug has its own ignition coil on top of it. It's just one more added step you'll need to perform when the time comes to replace those plugs. Just a hint... replace the rubber boots too when you take on this adventure. A lot of times they get dry and crack and will cause a missfire from secondary spark leakage. Also buy yourself one of those new Ford specific spark plug sockets that the tool wagons are starting to carry... they help out big time.
