Question 05 5.4 Hesitation

I have a problem with engine hesitation at around 2000 rpm give or take a few, when I step on the gas the engine almost stumbles. There is a heck of a dead spot and if I put my foot in it, the truck finally downshifts. My dealer ran a diagnostic and said there (Of course) were no codes stored, and that there were no service bulletins addressing this issue. It was barely noticeable when the truck was new, but it has gotten progressively worse. The truck only has 7,000 miles on it. When it's cold the truck actually slows down for a second when I hit the gas. Anybody out there had to deal with this?
Thanks!

Hesitation and the dead spot in the pedal are common complaints. IMHO, the best way to fix the issue is with a tuner. I currently use the Edge Evolution, and it eliminates these problems.

If you don't want to buy a tuner, you might have some luck convincing your dealer to update your PCM. I did this prior to purchasing the Edge. The update helped (but did not totally eliminate) the hesitation and dead spot, but it completely cured a driveline clunk problem and a no-start issue.

Do some reading in the 2004-2006 F150 and the Chips, Tuners, & Programming sections. You'll find tons of information to help you decide.

Good luck!

I have been posting all morning to this issue as well. I have the same issue and have been back 4x's (going back this mornign as well). I recently found out they can offer you a "flight recorder" to track the motors actions and try and solve the problem. This took research by finding a tech at another dealership that told me this could happen. My friend has a 2006 LT and has the same issues we do. IMHO the dealer has no interest in fixing it and I have had 2 reflashes at this point. I had a question though on the tuner...are you using premium gas now? taht is my only hesitation and the fact that it voids the warranty. Mynext steps aremaking the Ford engineer come down here and the oter option is a lemon law and getting something else other than a Ford which I would hate to do.
